The book I chose
was Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, by Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D. As I read
this book, I noticed the admiration others have for her. In chapter 1, Dweck
discusses that she was obsessed with understanding how people cope with
failures. She explains the experiment she conducted with children and says that
these children were her role model. I admire the feedback that she took from
people and she followed their insightful comments. She realizes that her work
is all about growth, which helps her foster her own growth, and I admire that.
There was nothing necessarily in the book that I least admired about Dweck, as
I thought she was hard-working and caring to others throughout the book. I
think Dweck's opinion of hard-work is that it is worth it. She continuously put
hard-work into her job and that was clear. I share the same opinion in that it
is important to be a hard-worker, and to put 100% into every task given. Two
questions I would ask Dweck would be, what made you study psychology? And, do
you believe you have more of a fixed mindset or a growth mindset.
