9A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

In the interviews I conducted, I found some people had the similar need of mine and wanted more parking in the area. In other interviews, I found some people had no problem with the Gainesville parking.

Who: Gainesville residents/UF students that find it difficult to park in the area
What: Extra parking added to Gainesville
Why: Yes, because not everyone feels the need for extra parking it Gainesville. This can vary on where you live or where you shop.

Interviews:

Marco: “I barely park on the street, but whenever I go home from work at night, I usually see a decent amount of spots, except on the weekends.” Marco lives in his fraternity house and has designated parking spots for residents. “I don’t normally have an issue with parking, but my favorite restaurant relies on street parking, so I always walk there.”
Casey: “I never have an issue with Gainesville parking. I live in the Standard on University and we have a parking garage. I usually only take my car out on the weekends, and at this point city parking is lifted”
Angel: “I live in a house and I have my own drive way and garage. I don’t normally have trouble parking since I can park in my own drive way.” “I have visited friends before that live in others areas of Gainesville and it does annoy me, but as for living in my own area, I never have problems.”
Madison: “I usually have trouble parking my car in the assigned zone I am in for my apartment, but I also have a scooter so I usually just take that out instead of my car.” “Scooter parking is easier to be found than parking for your car, but if I have to go grocery shopping, this is something I’ll have to take my car out for.”
Joey: Joey lives in an area that has zone 5 parking. He feels it is very limited but he also walks to a lot of places. “I work at Shands, and to park over there you must buy a decal. I wish there were other places that had parking that was more accessible.” “Zone 5 is one of the most limited zones for parking, Gainesville should really figure out a way to add more parking.”

  1. Hey Ashley,
After reading your post, I definitely would think that there are more people who are effected by the lack of parking in Gainesville. I think the people you interviewed definitely gave you something to think about and possibly gave you other ideas from it!

  2. Hey Ashley,

I have this exact problem. I am always searching for parking when I try to come onto campus. Your interviews were very insightful and gave you more information about how terrible the parking actually is.

  3. Hello Ashley,

Finding a parking spot on campus has got to be the most difficult part of being a UF student. I also struggle to find parking spots off-campus, which is why I’m surprised some people said they have no problem with Gainesville parking. I guess it all depends on what part of town you live in and how often you have to drive by campus!
